MBA/Masters/Graduate level Management and Business Courses
Business changes constantly, but the essential building blocks of management remain the same. Business schools teach them –from strategy to finance—using research results, case studies and textbooks. But to understand how the parts work to make functional whole, nothing beats the hands-on experience of running a business. Capstone® Business Simulation is like business itself: complex, competitive and constantly changing. Capstone® provides a complete, interactive experience in the development and execution of strategy and tactics. It’s the opportunity to use every key lever of business to build a profitable and sustainable enterprise.
Learn Business by running a business. Learn by doing! Learn by applying, making mistakes, experimenting and validating one’s learning in a realistic and competitive simulated business environment. One can't learn swimming unless one gets into a swimming pool!
Building better business people and developing core business acumen for the real world by:
Unforgettable Learning: Hard to see business inter-linkages are easily understood. Business concepts are brought to life in a living and dynamic business entity. The simulations breathe life into often (and increasingly) dull, arid and dense topics in which students see little or no connection with the real world. Business concepts/frameworks are translated into applicable and logical tools. The result is compelling, enduring and unforgettable learning.
Assurance of Learning: A high value and high visibility, assurance of learning tool - recognized and valued by industry, accrediting bodies and institutions worldwide.
Recruiters love it: Capstone has an immediate recall with recruiters. It’s used extensively in the corporate world. Capstone provides recruiters with a globally accepted standard assurance of learning tool.
The program can be delivered in a variety of formats (online, face to face, blended) and with varying pace, intensity and duration.
It blends seamlessly with the existing schedule and can be run parallel to the existing curriculum.
Capstone® is a rich, complex business simulation designed to teach strategy, competitive analysis, finance, marketing, operations, human resource management, cross-functional alignment, and the selection of tactics to build a successful and focused company. Entering the Capstone® business simulation experience, participants face a complex and rapidly evolving scenario in which business acumen is tested and enhanced through modelling, analysis and strategic planning.
The challenge is to turn around a poor- performing, $100 million company, with five average products, in very different market segments, while satisfying customer demands for better, faster and cheaper products. With five to eight years to build success, there is immediate pressure for the management team to develop a strategy and implement it thoroughly with every decision.
Each round is a year in the company's life and decisions are made in research and development, production, marketing and finance. Additional modules – in human resources, quality management and sustainability, labour negotiations and advanced marketing – can be added to increase both the complexity of the task and the learning opportunities.
At the end of each round, comprehensive reports are provided on each company's individual performance. There is also an industry report with extensive detail –such as product value chains for each company, inventory on hand, and production capacities – providing ample opportunity for competitive analysis.
Capstone® provides the rare opportunity to experience running a complete business, with the benefit of reports that show clear correlations between management decisions and outcomes. Faced with a full range of strategy-based decision-making options, participants have the opportunity to try new tactics, test unfamiliar strategic paradigms and take risks in a risk-free environment.
Simulations train pilots, soldiers and doctors — professions where learning is vital and mistakes can cost lives. But mistakes during simulations result in valuable teaching moments – with no harm done. We now see a dramatic increase in the use of educational simulations. The study of business is well suited to simulation. While business mistakes rarely cost lives, they can cost livelihoods.
